Norway is a very long country which extends north beyond the Arctic Circle. If you turn it upside down, from north to south, it will pass through Europe to the Mediterranean! The northern half of Norway lived under the midnight sun of summer and the magical dance of northern lights over the skies of the polar night in winter. Hike-country skiing during the day, and choose from four restaurants Michelin night. Still further north you can join a safari to observe eagles and whales. In summer the sun never sets in this part of Norway, and in winter the northern lights illuminate the dark sky. Swim in the cool water of the fjords, and let the breeze caress you from the North Pole when you are on the northernmost point of Europe, the North Cape! It shares borders with Sweden, Finland and Russia. Its long Atlantic coast is home to numerous fjords
Cities
Oslo
Hemmed by a ‘fjord’ and kilometers of woodland, Norway’s capital is an easy-going city with an eclectic architectural mix of old, new and just plain 1960s that is hard not to like. The perfect size for exploring on foot, the city boasts world-class museums, a lively nightlife and plenty of outdoor activities for the energetic. Most visitors will find themselves struggling to choose between Oslo’s numerous museums, which offer something for almost every taste: a face-to-face with the haunting image of Edvard Munch’s The Scream at the National Gallery, a chance to stand in the shoes of an Olympic ski-jumper at the Holmenkollen Ski Museum, or a window into history and culture at the unforgettable Viking Ship, Polar ship Frame or Folk Museums on Bygdøy. And Oslo is certainly the cosmopolitan heart of Norway, with a rapidly growing café and bar culture, top-notch restaurants, and nightlife options ranging from world-class opera and jazz to indie rock
Bergen
Surrounded by seven hills and seven fjords, Bergen is a beautiful, charming city. With the Unesco World Heritage–listed Bryggen and buzzing Vågen Harbour as its centerpiece, Bergen climbs the hillsides with hundreds of timber-clad houses, while cable cars offer stunning views from above. Throw in great museums, friendly locals and a dynamic cultural life and Bergen amply rewards as much time as you can give it. For an unbeatable view of the city, ride the 26-degree Fløibanen funicular to the top of Mt Fløyen.
Fjords
Norway’s epic landscapes rank among the most beautiful and varied in Europe, and the sheer drama of the fjords is alone worth the effort of coming to this remarkable country. Here, fjords of extraordinary beauty cut gashes from a jagged coastline deep into the interior, cliffs plunge down to barely populated shorelines, and vertiginous waterfalls drop from impossible heights. All the while, isolated farms occupy seemingly inaccessible pockets of green.

- Capital: Valletta
- Time Zone: GMT +1

Malta attracts more and more visitors every year. It has reserved the beauty of its landscapes which are at the most ancient yet very well known. From prehistoric temples, to the baroque architecture of Valletta, feasts of rabbit to festas of noisy fireworks, rattling buses to colorful fishing boats, this nation has loads of unique charm. Far from the excesses of mass tourism, Malta offers travelers a pleasant balance between authentic charm and modern comfort at prices considerably lower than many other comparable Mediterranean destinations. The celebrations are important in the life of the Maltese (which, on occasion, does not distain to drink to the health of the Knights of the Order of St. John): the calendar of religious holidays, in fact covers six months of year
Cities
Valletta
Valletta, The Fortress City, is Malta’s capital city: a living, working city, the administrative and commercial heart of the Islands. Valletta is named after its founder, the respected Grand Master of the Order of St. John, Jean Parisot de la Valette. The magnificent fortress city grew on the arid rock of Mount Sceberras peninsula, which rises steeply from two deep harbours, Marsamxett and Grand Harbour. The city is busy by day, yet retains a timeless atmosphere. The grid of narrow streets boasts some of Europe’s finest art works, churches and palaces. Walking around Valletta you’ll come across an intriguing historical site around every corner: votive statues, niches, fountains and coats of arms high up on parapets. Narrow side streets are full of tiny quaint shops and cafés, while Valletta’s main streets are lined with larger international branded shops for fashion, music, jewelry and much more.
Mdina-Rabat
Mdina is one of Europe’s finest examples of an ancient walled city and extraordinary in its mix of medieval and baroque architecture. Like nearby Mdina, Rabat played a major role in Malta’s past and is a prime source of its cultural heritage. This large provincial township was part of the Roman city of Melita, with the sites and archaeological relics found testifying to the town’s importance during the Roman period. The town is a commercial centre and acts as a market to its large agricultural hinterland. It is also well established on the tourist map due to its archaeological and historical sites: The Roman Villa (Domus Romana), catacombs, St. Paul’s Grotto and the fine churches and monasteries.
The Three Cities
The Three Cities offer an intriguing insight into Malta and its history. Left largely unvisited, these cities area slice of authentic life as well as a glimpse into Malta’s maritime fortunes. The Three Cities can rightly claim to be the cradle of Maltese history, as Vittoriosa, Senglea and Cospicua have provided a home and fortress to almost every people who settled on the Islands. As the first home to the Knights of St. John, the Three Cities’ palaces, churches, forts and bastions are far older than Valletta’s. The local communities here celebrate holy days and festas as nowhere else on the Islands. The most spectacular events are the Easter processions when statues of the “Risen Christ” are carried at a run through crowded streets.

Cities
Reykjavík
The world’s most northerly capital combines colorful buildings, quirky people and a wild nightlife. Most visitors fall helplessly in love, returning home already saving to come back. The city’s charm lies in its many peculiar contrasts, which, like tectonic plates clashing against one another, create an earthquake of energy. Reykjavík offers a bewitching combination of village innocence and big-city zeal. It’s populated by darkly cynical citizens (a quality brought very much to the fore by the country’s recent near-bankruptcy) who are, in spite of everything, filled with unstoppable creativity and enduring spirit. In summer the streets are washed by 22 hours of daylight; in winter they’re scoured by blizzards and doused in never-ending night. Reykjavík is a city that treasures its Viking past but wants the future – the very best of it, now ! You’ll find all the cultural trappings of a large 21st-century European city here: cozy cafés, world-class restaurants, fine museums and galleries, and state-of-the-art geothermal pools. Reykjavík has also become famous for its kicking music scene and its excessive Friday-night ‘‘runtur’’, a wild pub crawl round the small, super stylish clubs and bars. Add to this a backdrop of snow-topped mountains, an ocean that wets the very toes of the town, air as cold and clean as frozen diamonds and incredible volcanic surroundings, and you’ll agree that there’s no better city in the world.
Akureyri
Akureyri stands strong as Iceland’s second city, but a Melbourne, Manchester or Montreal it is not. And how could it be? There are only just over 17,000 residents! It’s a wonder the city (which would be a ‘town’ in any other country) generates this much buzz. Expect cool cafes, gourmet restaurants and something of a late-night bustle – a far cry from other towns in rural Iceland.Akureyri nestles at the head of Iceland’s greatest fjord, at the base of snowcapped peaks, and across the city flowerboxes, trees and well-tended gardens belie the location, just a stone’s throw from the Arctic Circle. With a lively summer festival season, some of Iceland’s best winter skiing, and a relaxed and easy attitude, it’s the natural base for exploring Eyjafjörður.
