Mysteries of Chachapoyas

In the morning you will take your flight at the airport of Lima to the airport of Jaén. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to Chachapoyas.

Hike to the Gocta Waterfall

The Gocta Falls are a true natural spectacle and one of the highest in the world. This full-day excursion will take us on an incredible and challenging path that will give us impressive views not only of the waterfall, but of the lush surroundings. We will travel by car to the town of San Pablo de Valera, our starting point. From there, we will cross farms and agricultural fields until we enter a humid forest, passing through three different viewpoints until we reach the foot of the first waterfall. Then, we will continue to the Mirador divide, where we will have panoramic views of the Gocta waterfall in all its splendor. Once we soak in the incredible views, we will begin the descent along a zigzagging path until we reach the Gocta ravine and the base of the falls with an amazing perspective. Finally, we will begin the road to Cocachimba, making a stop at the sugar mill to enjoy a well-deserved and restorative lunch. It will be a demanding but immensely rewarding adventure!
At the end of the walk, you will be transferred to your hotel in Cocachimba or Chachapoyas.

Visit the Kuelap Fortress

We will visit the impressive Kuelap Fortress, an ancient pre-Inca citadel located high in the mountains of the Amazon region. A memorable experience awaits us! Following the course of the Utcubamba River we will travel by road to Tingo, stopping for a moment along the way to see the Macro ruins in the distance. Upon arrival, we will board the cable cars that will take us to the Kuelap tourist station, and then begin a 30-minute walk to the southern entrance gate of the fortress, famous for its imposing stone walls. We will enjoy a guided tour of the site, learning a little about the Chachapoya civilization and exploring the different levels and constructions, including intricate passages, towers and ceremonial structures. In addition, we will have unparalleled views of the mountainous landscape that surrounds Kuelap! At the end of our exploration of this fascinating place, we will walk down to the cable car station to return to the base and continue your transfer back to the hotel.

This full-day excursion will immerse us in the fascinating history of the Chachapoyas culture. We will travel by road to the picturesque town of San Bartolo, from where we will begin our walk towards the Mausoleums of Revash. A path of approximately 1.5 km will take us to the cliff where this archaeological treasure full of mystery is located. The funerary structures are constructions that resemble small miniature towns, with funerary houses built of stone and mud directly on the cliff. In addition, the mausoleums are adorned with geometric designs and zoomorphic figures that make them even more impressive. We will have lunch in the town of Leymebamba, where we will have the opportunity to visit its famous museum, which houses an impressive collection of archaeological objects from the Chachapoyas culture, as well as more than 200 mummies that were recovered from the Condores Lagoon. A must-see destination for lovers of archeology and history! Finally, you will return to your hotel.

In the morning you will be transferred from your hotel in Chachapoyas to the airport of Jaén, where you will take your flight to the city of Lima.
