DAY 1 / SEPTEMBER 21ST - ATHENS

Arrival at Athens International Airport. Transfer to the Stanley Hotel or similar with an English-speaking assistant. Rest of the day at leisure.

DAY 2 / SEPTEMBER 22ND - ATHENS – DELPHI - KALAMBAKA

Morning departure from Athens and you will arrive at Delphi around noon. Famous for its theater, Temple of Apollo and ancient ruins, Delphi was considered the center of the earth and the universe and played a central role in the classical Greek world. Visit at the archaeological site and the Temple of Apollo famous for its oracle. In the afternoon after lunch, depart through Central Greece and the cities of Lamia (short stop), Trikala crossing the Thessalian plain, to Kalambaka, a small town built at the foot of the majestic grey rocks, and crowded by the Meteora Monasteries (short stop for souvenirs)(B/D)

DAY 3 / SEPTEMBER 23RD - KALAMBAKA - ATHENS

Departure in the morning for nearby Meteora for a tour of the cliff-top monasteries to visit two different byzantine monasteries built on top of rock towers and providing fantastic views over the plain. Meteora is included on the UNESCO world heritage monument list. The monasteries are perched on top of towers of sandstone, which for centuries provided totally inaccessible retreats for the monks. Meteora is considered one of the most beautiful area of mainland Greece, and its monasteries are one of the country’s most unique attractions. On the way of the return, you may visit a factory of Byzantine style icons (optional). Return to Athens passing by the heroic monument of Leonidas king of Sparta in Thermopylae (short stop for photos). The tour returns to Athens in the late afternoon. (B)

DAY 4 / SEPTEMBER 24TH – ATHENS – ARGOLIS - ATHENS

Full day trip from Athens to Argolis, the remains of the ancient city of Mycenae a major centre of Greek civilization from 1600BC to 1100BC and a world heritage monument. Depart from our terminal for one day tour via the coastal National highway for the Corinth canal (short stop). After the Corinth Canal, you enter the region of Argolis, land of Homer’s Golden Mycenae, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Dating back to the second century B.C., Mycenae was one of the major centers of Greek civilization and a military stronghold which dominated much of southern Greece. Visit the archaeological site, home to the kingdom of mythical Agamemnon. You will see the Cyclopean Walls, the Lion’s Gate, the Royal Tombs, including Agamemnon Clytemnestra’s, and the Treasury of Atreus, a magnificent 14th-century B.C. structure. Lunch break for a traditional Greek optional lunch at a nearby restaurant ($). After lunch you will go to Nauplia, the first capital of modern Greece with its Venetian fortress of Palamidi and the fortified islet of Bourtzi (short stop). You will continue to Epidaurus and visit the ancient theatre. The UNESCO’S world heritage listed monument is reputed to be the birthplace of Apollo’s son Asklepios, the healer and was the most celebrated healing center of the classical world. Epidaurus is probably most famous for its theatre, one of the best preserved classical Greek buildings and still used today due to its amazing acoustics. The tour will end in Athens in the late afternoon. Overnight in Athens. (B)

DAY 6 / SEPTEMBER 26TH – KUSADASI – PATMOS

06:30Am arrival in Kusadasi and departure at 12:30pm. Then arrival in Patmos at Depart at 06:30pm arrival and departure at 11:59pm. (B/L/D)

Kusadasi: Take a journey into the past in richly historic Ephesus. Once an ancient Greek city, Kusadasi was known for the famed Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Built, destroyed, and rebuilt again through several notably historical periods, Ephesus boasts abounding ruins and archaeological excavation sites. View what remains of the Roman Library of Celsus, the Gate of Augustus, the Tomb of John the Apostle, and the Basilica of St. John, among several other ancient remnants.

Patmos: Patmos boasts idyllic beaches and swimming coves and enviable historic hilltop mansions, as it is a favourite hideaway for the elite. Though many are drawn to Patmos for its natural beauty and seclusion, the island is also famous for being the site of where the Apostle John is said to have written The Book of Revelations. From visiting the Monastery of the Apocalypse – which includes a chapel over the cave where St. John lived and received his revelation – to sunbathing on pebbled beaches and strolling picturesque villages, exploring Patmos promises to be a relaxing and memorable day in the Mediterranean.

Along the scenic coast lies the whitewashed town of Lindos with its ancient acropolis and stunning views.

Looking at picturesque Argostoli, you wouldn’t know it suffered a devastating earthquake in 1953. The city and its surrounding area are full of treasures, including a 12th-century Byzantine cathedral and beautiful 16th century frescoes. And the nearby underground Lake of Melissani is simply magical. Enter the caves to find ancient stalactites, and marvel at the scattered rays of light beaming through, turning the water an intense blue.

DAY 13 / OCTOBER 3RD – ATHENS

 After Breakfast at hotel, you travel directly to the center of Athens to start our half day panoramic city tour of Athens. This tour giving you an opportunity to observe the striking contrasts that make Athens such a fascinating city. Our expert guides will take you to see the Panathenaic Stadium where the first Olympic Games of modern times were held in 1896 (short stop). Continue and pass by the Temple of Olympian Zeus, the Hadrian’s Arch, the Parliament and the memorial to the Unknown Soldier, the Academy, the University, the National Library, the Constitution Square (Syntagma). On the Acropolis visit the Architectural Masterpieces of the Golden Age of Athens: The Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion and finally “the harmony between material and spirit”, the monument that “puts order in the mind”, the Parthenon.  Avoid and skip the lines of the new museum of Acropolis, main attractions such as votives, artifacts of everyday life, statues from archaic period, Caryatids, and of course the Parthenon Hall with the metopes, the pediments and the frieze will impress you.
